A New Huuhkaja Release

ARTIST: Huuhkaja
RELEASE: “Loistava etana” (Digital, PAR-006)
LABEL: Pacific-Atlantic Records
RELEASE DATE: 17th June 2011
FILE UNDER: Psych Hop, UDM, Jeskola Buzz, Boss SP.

Eight tracks of tape crunch from Finnish musician and sound artist Twisted Krister under nom de plume Huuhkaja.

Titled in a psychedelic fashion, ”Loistava etana” is a collection of Huuhkaja's works from late 90's. Sourced from obscure Nordic folk driven through complex effect nets of Jeskola Buzz modules, loops fabricated on cheapest available samplers and double-deck boombox tape collages, the master tapes of this mini-album were actually lost for over a decade.

The refreshingly unorthodox pokes at the traditions hip hop and other electronic rhythm music were discovered again by chance from an attic in Helsinki. Now, after some TLC combined with digital ironing they are finally available to the great public.

Best described as an Euro-eccentric attempt at imitating the masterworks of Public Enemy or the like, the tracks are a combination of the dissonant sonic signature of late 80's / early 90's of U.S. hip hop and pasty-faced rigidity of Fennoscandian youth stuck in front of Windows '98 during the grim winter months.

Huuhkaja: Field recordings, vinyl plunders, tracker collage and one Pepsi too many. Mixed on C-cassette and then forgotten under winter trousers for 12 years.

Reconstructed and mastered by Twisted Krister at Pacific-Atlantic in May 2011.
